Sorry for not posting Friday, but my computer ate my blog (kinda like "My dog ate my homework") and I was just too tired to post again. And Saturday, I was up late working.
But here's what I've been up to, besides writing:
Friday I met a new writer friend, Risa, for lunch at Margarita Ranch at Mockingbird Station. I rode the train, which I always enjoy, except that some guy tried to sell me drugs. I've honestly never had a complete stranger walk up to me and try to sell me drugs. Weird.
Saturday I met the highschool girl I'm mentoring, Lindsey. I might have mentioned this before, but she won first place in the high school division of a national writing competition sponsored by the Faulkner Society, and now she gets the chance to submit a novel proposal and meet an editor and an agent in person to pitch/receive feedback. I've been helping her whip her proposal into shape. Lindsey and her mom treated me to lunch at Norma's, which is so sweet.
The rest of the weekend I've been writing/procrastinating, reading, doing laundry, and playing with Rob's new toy. Amazon sent him a free digital video camera if he agreed to do "video reviews" which he really has no idea how to do! This thing is so cute. It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and it records videos with pretty decent resolution. It comes with some primitive editing software that I played around with. I'm trying to figure out how I can shoot my own footage to make book trailers.
Honestly, if I wasn't already a writer, I would make videos for a living. I'm not very good at it because I haven't got the time to devote to learning how to do it--I know just enough to be dangerous. But I could see myself getting addicted to making movies.
Maybe next time I get burned out on writing, that's what I'll do.
Have a great week,
Kara
