Some people are frightened or intimidated by the blank page, but to me, facing Page 1 of a new book is the best, most exciting time of the entire creative process. Before you type past "Chapter One," the book is still nothing but infinite potential. It could be the best book I've ever written. Heck, it could be the best book anybody's ever written.
And then you type that first line, that first paragraph, and now it's work. Oh, well. Fun while it lasted.
I just started CATCH OF THE DAY (title will undoubtedly change), Book #2 in the Second Sons series for Harlequin American. That's pretty much all I did today. That and laundry and, okay, I watched that Psychic Challenge TV show, which was kind of interesting because the psychics were performing under controlled circumstances--and they didn't do so well, at least, not consistently. They had this empty hospital, and each psychic got the chance to guess which room a guy was hiding in. One guy picked the room next door. One woman picked another room first, but her second choice was the correct room. (Out of dozens, maybe hundreds of rooms.) But when they had to do a blind psychic reading with a person behind a wall who wasn't giving them any clues, some of them really tanked. And reading a crime scene--one woman did very well on that one, she described the whole crime start to finish and got almost everything right, but the others tanked.
Still, they all did better than I could have done, I think! But what a fun idea for a show.
Thanks for visiting,
Kara
