Whenever my mother-in-law, Sally, comes to town, she always makes a point of visiting her childhood friend Margaret Ann, who lives here. Today we all went to Mattito's for their legendary brunch--Sally and Margaret-Ann, M-A's husband, Franz, and Rob and me.
Of course we all ate ourselves into a stupor. Even if you just try a little bit of this and that, it's impossible not to eat too much! Afterward we went to M-A and Franz's home (they have a cool, modern townhome in Oak Lawn with the most amazing original art) and visited.
Later I worked on my egg-cup shelf, which has a few problems. This is why I didn't become an architect or a furniture designer. My sister (who is an architect) could have done a better job when she was ten years old than I'm doing now, I think. I have my work cut out, that's for sure.
We took a nice long walk to the park--I was hoping to see some interesting birds, but it was just the usual array of ducks and geese.
No one felt much like dinner. We grazed on a few leftovers but only with lackluster appetites. Overeating is bad--baaaaaaad. But it's hard to limit yourself when faced with such an array of amazing food. (I ate an unlikely combination of migas, bacon, tortilla soup, guacamole, and a white-chocolate-chip cookie.)
See you soon,
Kara
