* * *
Last night as I was trying to sleep, I kept hearing these horrendous noises--crashes and thumps that sounded like someone was trying to get inside. Or like a branch hitting and scraping a window, but there was no wind. Cats howling and dogs baying at the moon. I lay awake for two hours, positive there was a werewolf out there. (Rob never heard a thing. I would wake him up and he would fall back asleep before the noise started again.)
This morning I'm brushing my teeth, looking out the window to the back yard, and I see two enormous dogs asleep in the middle of the grass. My yard is fenced, and both gates were closed and locked. But a fence slat on one gate was missing. My best guess is that these dogs chased a cat into my yard, broke the fence in the process, then couldn't figure out how to get back out. They were hurling themselves at the fence, and that was the noise I heard.
I called animal control. The dogs both had collars but they weren't at all friendly, so I couldn't check the tags and call their owners.
While I'm waiting for animal control, the tree trimmers/stump removers arrived. Of course they wanted to get into the back yard. I explained to them that there were two possibly mean dogs back there. The foreman says, "You mean those dogs?" They'd gotten out and were in the front yard, and they took off.
I called and canceled animal control.
Then my housekeeper arrived, and then the sprinkler repair guy (who was with the tree-trimming people) which reqiured that I stand downstairs and turn the sprinklers on and off.
Then my Merrill Lynch guy called and wanted to do a portfolio review. (Like I have a VAST portfolio! yeesh.)
Then someone inquired about having me do an all-day workshop for their writer's group. So I had to put together a proposal--sounds like fun!
Needless to say it was one of those days I got nothing done. I had to go to the bank and get my nails done (acrylic emergency). Wait a minute. I did not get my nails done at the bank. I went to the bank, then to the nail place. Yeesh again.
While Rob went to fencing, his mom and I walked to Norma's for dinner. This is her last evening here and she hadn't had dinner at Norma's yet.
I did manage to get a little bit of revision done on my CATCH OF THE DAY proposal. Vicki says my heroine sounds sad and pathetic--I can't have that!
Tomorrow is another crazy day--airport, Wishcraft, lunch with the girls, then shopping for my wine-tasting party.
I'm still trying to get Da Vinci to eat his fruits and vegetables (and meat and potatoes, too). He is not interested.
Thanks for stopping by,
Kara
