Betty Skelly: Hi Kara, been awhile I did not come here. I was busy, we went back to FL again and we got lots of sunshine. We missed the flood here in Northwest but I am thankful that our house did not sunk. We live in a hill and the house was built 1 foot up the ground. I called my friend if we have flood but then it is only at the bridge about 2 miles away from my home. Glad everything went ok. How are you? Got a new book working again huh! cool!

Fingerprint frenzy

The Dallas Mystery Writers of America group brought in fingerprint expert Phyllis Middleton to teach us all about this fascinating branch of forensics.  Phyllis was trained by the FBI and later worked for several different law enforcement agencies as a crime scene investigator and fingerprint analyst.  I'm simplifying her impressive bio a lot, but anyway, she knew her stuff.

Not only did she talk about fingerprints, but she brought show-and-tell.  She had us leave fingerprints on a variety of surfaces (paper, plastic etc.) then used various types of powder to develop the prints and lift them.  Because it was a small group, we all got to get close as she worked to really see how it was done.  She answered all of our questions and she was really fabulous!

The rest of the day I worked on my read-through of the MOB book.  I'm about a third of the way there.  I figure I can finish by tomorrow and get it off Monday morning as planned.
